What is the difference between imitation silk (made from polyester) and Ally James Silk Boxes?

The four basic methods for determining true silk are by:
1) considering the price;
2) looking carefully at the weave
3) looking at the luster; and
4) by burning a piece
5) label "100% Thai Silk"

Our 100% Thai silk is soft but has a relatively coarse texture with uneven, slightly knotty threads. This quality makes it extremely suitable for weaving by hand. Our Thai silk has a magnificent, rich, exotic beauty and, with proper care, can last a century or more.
Our 100% Thai Silk has triangular fibers which reflect light like prisms. It also has layers of protein that gives it a natural sheen and makes it lustrous and smooth. Silk is an insect fiber and superior to any animal or plant fiber. Our 100% Thai silk fiber is strong but lightweight, elastic but supple.

IMPORTANT: Please be aware that not all manufacturers claiming to use 100% Thai silk is in fact such. We work closely with our box manufacturers and have personally inspected the quality of the silk as well as the fine workmanship that goes into a top rate invitation silk box, envelope or folio. Our boxes are used by the top invitation designers, florists and event planners. We do our best to work within all budgets but we won't compromise the truly luxurious quality of an Ally James Silk Box.
